Tickets are now on sale for Ogunquit Performing Art’s 8th annualElizabeth Dunaway Burnham Memorial Piano Festival at the S. Judson Dunaway Center, 23 School Street. Ogunquit, Maine.
At 8 pm Friday, April 25th, pianist Masanobu Ikemiya has been invited back to perform an intriguing program of music by composers Mozart, Brahms, John Cage, Chopin and Rachmaninoff on OPA’s legendary Steinway C Concert Grand piano.
Mr. Ikemiya was educated at Oberlin College Conservatory and Indiana University. He has received world-wide attention for his many concerts throughout the former Soviet Union, Mexico, Argentina, Taiwan, Cambodia, Philippines, Bulgaria, El Salvador, Portugal, Brazil, Guam, Hawaii, India, Korea, Canada and the United States where he has appeared in solo recitals at New York’s Lincoln Center and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. For years he toured annually in Japan with members of the New York Philharmonic and with the New York Ragtime Orchestra of which he is the founder-leader-pianist and received an award from the UN for promoting world peace through music.
At 8 pm on Saturday April 26th, pianist Anastasia Antonacos will perform works from contemporary British composer Cecilia McDowall followed by compositions by Franz Liszt, Franz Schubert, Czech composer Leos Janacek and Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara.
Dr. Antonacos has given notable performances around the world, playing in Greece, Russia, France and Belgium, playing venues such as the Salle Cortot, Casa Orfeo, Holland’s Alkmaar Conservatory, and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. She placed first at the International Young Artist Music Competition in Bulgaria and prizes at the Capdepera International Piano Competition in Mallorca and the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Competition among others.
On Sunday afternoon April 27, 2014 at 3 pm the program turns to Student Recitals. This is open to local piano students who are recommended by their teachers to perform. The Student Recital is free for everyone.
Tickets for each of the concerts are $15 in advance and $18 the day of the event. Advance tickets are available on-line at www.ogunquit.org/shop.php or at the Dunaway Center, the Ogunquit Camera Shop and the Ogunquit Welcome Center.
The performance is sponsored by Ogunquit Performing Arts, a not-for-profit, tax exempt, all volunteer committee of the Town of Ogunquit. All proceeds go toward promotion, production and artist fees for this and future events.
